Let's us, Harry Potter fans, rejoice in another milestone in the Harry Potter Universe! Nothing else can come close to this!
Today, 18th June 2010, is the grande opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter located at Universal Studios Orlando! The stars from the films were there to welcome the first wave of visitors.
3 years. It has been 3 years since Universal Studios Orlando first announced of the plans and blueprint to build a wizarding world for muggles. I'd been stoked then. Now, it's officially open to muggles all around the world!
The first thing I want to do when I am there will be to soak and breathe in the sights. It's going to be so awesome! I'll send letters home via owl post. All letters passing through will be stamped with a exclusive motif only found inside the theme park.
I want to get myself a wand, lots of goodies and merchandises and literally spend till I drop. I want to try butterbeer too! The reviews are good, from what I heard and seen.
Before that, I must get on the Forbidden Journey ride first. I need to see what it is like inside Hogwarts and experience it. The Forbidden Journey ride is going to take a lot of courage to get on because it is almost a roller-coaster of sorts. I'll have to do it at least once because this is once in a lifetime experience!
Oh boy. I can't wait till it's my turn to go! Even though the means to the end will be very tough, it will be worth it, won't it?
Some people think chasing after something fictitious is silly and stupid. But, from one Harry Potter fan to another, only we will understand what the buzz and fuss is about. Besides, the more for us.
You know, salivating and staying awake in the wee hours watching men chasing after a ball is silly to naysayers too. In fact, every other hobby in the world will sound silly to some. "One man's treasure is another man's trash", the saying goes.
"To each his own", I say. Fishing and stamp-collecting is boring to some, yet others love it. So, don't judge me for what I adore and love. Everyone is different and the world don't revolve around you.

Live from Orlando

I'm so glad I can be part of this glorious moment!-
This morning, which is Florida's Wednesday night, there was a live feed from Universal Orlando Wizarding World of Harry Potter grand opening kick-off event. I'm so thrilled that I can be part of this, despite living halfway across USA and sitting at home viewing via telecast.
-
This is most awesome news ever for the Harry Potter franchise! Ever since 2007, when Universal announced that they will be building the village and Hogwarts, I've been eyeing to go. I lost track of its progress for a few years and suddenly, in late 2009, coverage of the construction and wondrous promises reached my ears and I decided to make it my graduation present.
-Voila! The quest for earning enough money to enjoy myself fully is born!
-June 18th 2010 is the grand opening day for the Wizarding World. Today's event had actors and J K Rowling herself attending.
-At 9.10pm, J. K Rowling was on the red carpet. And the Hogwarts frog choir led by Professor Filtwick (Warwick Davis) started off singing the Hogwarts March and Something Wicked This Way Comes.
-John Williams, composer for a few Harry Potter movies, directed the Orlando orchestra. Haunting notes from Hedwig's theme floated around. My heart clenched a little because it just brought back memories.
-The Knight Bus arrived to the scene with the Harry Potter stars: Tom Felton, Oliver and James Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Michael Gambon, Matthew Lewis. Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint arrived in the Ford Anglia. Cheers rose as they went on stage.
-
With a swish of the wands, led by Dan Radcliffe, shouts of Lumos were heard. Then, the most spectacular sight and memorable moment appeared. Hogwarts was finally revealed! It was aglow with lights; a light show and fireworks set the atmosphere nicely for those who were present.
-Even for viewers across the globe who have managed to catch the live feed on the official website, this is the moment to be savoured.
-Of course I would give anything to be there, right here, right now. It's my greatest wish to attend the grand opening! Sighs, the chance is nada unless someone offer me a ticket to Orlando.
-I couldn't be there this year, but never fear, I'll be there the next. This is my promise to myself. I will spend all I can there, to bring back memories I will always look back with love.
-Oh, what I would give for the year 2010 to speed by.
-
They promise that the Wizarding World will meet the expectations of Harry Potter fans and we will get a completely immersing experience once we're there. You breathe Hogwarts, you live Hogwarts. Now is the chance to see what the other world live like.
-
For a day, you can pretend you are a student, destined to graduate from Hogwarts, buying and eating wizard goods. Oh, I can't wait to get my hands on some Slytherin merchandise.

Diffferent Wavelengths
Feeling rather melancholy and depressed these few days. It must be the fact the school will be reopening soon... Gone with the wind are the holidays.
Why do I, do I love ... holidays? Because I don't have heavy responsibilities, I don't have to answer to myself or to others. I can laze around and be myself. I can read when I feel like it. I can do what I like, when I like.
With school comes responsibilities. I don't have much chance to read or use the laptop for purely entertainment purposes. I have to stress myself over projects and tests and what not. I came back home each day feeling worse for wear.
Urgh... Words can't describe how I feel. It's like suffocation. I just wish this feeling would pass.
Frankly, I don't see why is going to school so exciting. Perhaps I operate on a different wavelength from others. As it never cross my mind to think about school that way. To me, it's an obligation and the answer. However, I would like to continue with University.
Or maybe its because of the exciting things happening without me? Reading all those news about the Wizarding World makes me depressed too.
Whatever is going on with me, it better pass. I have to get myself together as I storm through my senior year. Then it's good riddance.

Opening Date for WWHP
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I heard the most exciting news!
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando is set to open its doors on June 18th 2010!
If I thought I was excited before, I was mistaken. You can't imagine the anticipation coursing through my blood when I first saw the news.
Oh gods, I wish mightily to go on its grand opening day. However, that is not possible. For one, I just have to live on the other side of the world. For another, cash. Besides, the place is going to be flooded, and I mean really flooded with HP fans and not months after opening.
Gahhhhh! I can't believe some of things they are introducing in this theme park! It's going to be a surreal experience indeed. They want fans to have a complete experience in the world created by J. K. Rowling. And that's the best part, Rowling is involved in this pet project from Day 1. How cool is that?
It is going to be such a treat! Even if I have to drag myself onto that plane, fly halfway across the world and perhaps sat myself on my first roller-coaster in my entire life, I'll be there.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey sounds terrifying and unique. It will be inside the castle itself and the waiting line will not seems long because there are so much to see inside the castle. Woohoo!
I am going to be spending and spending when I get there. So much to see, so much to buy! I may be years late, but one is never too old to go to Hogwarts.
I have been planning for months now. Years, maybe, when I first saw reports of plans to build Hogwarts. Why else would I be sticking to my job?
I'm going to save, save, save and then spend and spend in Universal!
I may be not be there this year, but next year, I'll be ready. Once I graduate, I am free! The problem now lie at "Who will be going with me?"
This is probably a once in a blue moon chance and I have to make the most out of it. As I said, I don't have the privilege of living in the States, where most of the happening things are. If I make this trip, it will possibly be the first and last in a few years.
I am searching for a packaged deal, which will include accommodations and park entrance ticket, air ticket will be most welcome. Actually, air ticket is what that bothers me. A freaking S$4000 plus just for air ticket on Singapore Airlines?
I would rather sign up for a tour package. But what if the airline they have is not SIA? I guess since I'll become a "sick cow" once I'm on the plane, it doesn't matter much if the airline is SIA or not.
The grand opening is going to be awesome! Some of the Harry Potter actors/actresses will be there and perhaps J. K. Rowling as well. I can only read it in reports. Sighs.
Wow, wow, wow! It's like Christmas came early this year. I really envy those who can make their trip to Orlando this year.

Reason to work
Ahh crap!
More concrete reason why I should have work 4 days a week. Which is exactly what I am doing now.
For the fun of it, I checked out the price rates for a SQ flight to Orlando, Florida. To my horror, a round trip ticket would cost me S$4.8K, minimum. Holy crow! Where am I going to so much money? And it's just air tickets! What about shopping, theme park access, food and hotels?
Then, I went over to check out Chan Brothers travel packages. I found one that is pretty awesome. It starts from S$4.8k and it's a 13 day itinerary spanning from New York/New Jersey to Washington to Orlando. I figured, from Orlando, I can just stay on for another few days before leaving for Singapore by myself.
It's true that I don't know what flight this package consist of, there is a high chance that it is not Singapore Airlines.
Anyway, I just want to have a gauge of how things are. Obviously, I'm not giving up this goal. Because if I did, I wonder how will I be? To be living life without a goal is the worst thing that could happen. How I survive the rest of the semester depends very much on my goals when it is time to go.
With this goal, suddenly, I feel like I have a purpose to do well in my studies, to endure my work. I really do not want to forsake it because of some minor matter.
The date is changable, as long as I have a companion. But, I am not willing to wait for another year. Oh no. I have to make the trip before the second half of DH premiers.
Worst to come would be to join a tour, and that is actually a better solution. It is cheaper, I can visit attractions I normally wouldn't go by myself and I don't have to worry about accommodations/on the road expenses.
Actually, the main reason for checking out the flights and travel packages is because now that my mother wouldn't be going for a eye surgery this March, it means that we may have a chance to go overseas. Besides, she wants to go Taiwan. However, the real problem is that how will we find tours that are not fully booked. Free and easy is out since Osaka and Taiwan flights on SQ are not available during that March holidays.
On a more personal note, I had already signed myself up for duties for 4 days per week. And this is because there is shortage of staff. So, if I were to go overseas...
Ha, but it is wishful thinking if they think I will stay on while the rest of the family enjoy themselves. Of course, I would tell them early if only the date is fixed. Damnation.
Sometimes, I wish I would stop being so responsible to the point of nauseating. I feel irk at myself too. When it is clearly not MY problem, why should I have worry? Huh? That I really don't understand. And when will I stop viewing things out of proportion? I seem to escalate things and get so worried and strung-up over them. Then, I lose sleep and my mind buzzing, filled with all these nonsense.
I need to get those out of my system. Really. Period.

Letters of the extreme
To whom it may concern,
I’ve decided to quit. I was blinded by greed at that point of time and now I’m filled with regrets. Greed as one knows is one of the deadly sins.
What happen to my policy of “No Regrets”, I’m not too sure. As such, I’m will be going under mediation for a couple of days and is deeply sorry to send you this letter.
You won’t ever see me again, I’m sure of it. I’ll look back and think of what a bad experience I had during all this time and laugh at my stupidity. In a moment of softness, I did it and now feel sorry for myself. No one is to be blamed but myself. I will reflect on my mistakes.
Goodbye. I won’t say take care because in absolute truth, I don’t care at all.
With total regrets.
Haha, now that’s a letter from my heart. I was telling my father that I was blinded by greed in taking up the job etc, and decided it would make a good letter. Crap, I really regretted it! I moan and groan all day because of it. Arghh! I hate it!
My holidays are spoilt because of it. Don’t tell me how fortunate I am because I don’t feel fortunate at this point of time. I want to rant and rave!
To whom it may concern,
It’s me, again. I know I’ve stated that you won’t be hearing from me but in truth, I’ve changed my mind.
Funny how one’s mindset can do a 180 degrees change when one has seen the light. In fact, greed is one of the main components at work here. I’ve made plans that required cash and who else better to provide what I need than this?
This is naught but an obligation. I once said I will leave when 3 months is up, but now, given the circumstances I faced and made, I’ll carry on for as long as possible.
If you think I like it, you are wrong. I still dislike it greatly and what keep me going is the thoughts of the grand plan I’ve made for myself.
I really put my foot in my mouth this time. But, the ends do justify the means and I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure my plans take off; regardless of the troubles I faced now. Ahh, the essence of youth. I’ll just have to grit my teeth and bear it with a painful smile.
I’ll probably end here now and won’t digress further.
With absolute regrets.
This is another of the letter I composed not a few days ago, when I suddenly made plans for the graduation trip I'm determined to make in 2011. This important trip will be at Florida, USA. Destination; Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Orlando.
Afterall, aren't graduation trips a tradition? I've made up mind about it and so, did a double-take regarding the work.
I won't want to say and plan more than what it is lest I jinx it. However, costs have to made and plans to acquire the cash will be constantly on my mind. The estimated cost will be a few thousands and it is going to "kill" me. So, all the more I should save and earn what I can now. 2 years is a long time, yet it will pass by quick enough.
The thoughts of the newly planned Wizarding World theme park is still fresh in my head and then, it was almost done. I remembered being so excited over it, a few years back. Too bad the newspaper cutting I made didn't have the date on it. Time do pass fast.
It will open in spring 2010 and "groans", I'll only be a year late. Ahh well, I do envy those people who can make that debut trip there in 2010. But, it's still a good timing for me. The last movie will be out in mid 2011 and people will continued to flock to the theme park. Furthermore, one year will be gone and its novelty will wear off but not too much. It's the perfect timing to go!
It's lucky I made my plans now.
Well, as I said, the ends do justify the means and I've officially dug a grave, jumped into it and covered myself with dirt. I'll just have to endure it.
