Good Omens book review

Once every while, one will have the good fortune to find hidden gems amidst the mountains of books published and available in the market each year. When you do, sit back, relax with a cuppa and while your time away with the good read.

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is one such gem. It has been published for more than a decade and in terms of picking it up, I'm late in every sense. However, I can take heart that an adaptation for a television series is coming up in 2013.

I caught wind of it when I was reading Sherlock fanfiction and chanced upon Sherlock/Good Omens crossovers. These fanfictions are truly lovely featuring the Sherlock characters as angels/devils on Earth. Hence, I now have to track down this "elusive" novel. I placed a reservation in the library and voila!

The novel is an absolute treat and deliciously witty. It is exactly my cup of tea when it comes to books - a hint of sarcasm and wit with lots of brilliant ideas. I find myself bursting into laughter at the 'ridiculous' stuff made up by the very human-boy Antichrist - tunnelling Tibetans, Atlantians with diving gear and raining fish creatures.

Good Omens is described as a quasi-parody and touched on topics such as the Apocalypse, angels, demons, Good, Evil, Heaven, Hell and witchcraft. I'm not particularly religious so it's perfectly fine for me to read such things written in such a light-hearted manner. But, I can imagine some (overzealous) people being touchy over it.

I highly recommend it to those who appreciate witty dialogue and comical characters.

A Peek into an Incoherent Mind

Questions, questions.

Have I been thinking too much so much so that I can't even form a coherent thought in my mind now?

What prompt me to think that going back to school on holidays is a good idea in the first place? For goodness sake, I don't even feel like leaving the bed.

There could only be one bad thing about holidays and that is this: holidays with responsibilities!

Holidays in mid-term is a very bad idea. The idea of having a holiday but having to work on your projects is a torture with the capital letter T. It's a tantalising thought complete with torture devices.

I welcome holidays with open arms but this is a little bit sadistic. You get holidays but have to use the time to work on so many different projects. Is it little wonder that my brain is mush?
Update: My Muse is back, it seems. I just hope it doesn't go away too soon this time.

Alright, there are lots of thoughts swirling around now. I'm not exactly the most eloquent person around. I think a lot, and when I don't put them on paper there and then, I lost them. It gets really frustrating.

It's a good thing I'm not an aspiring author because this is a bad habit to have.

You know what? I want a beta reader to proof-read my projects. Not necessary to correct but to see whether it works and flows properly and put in their 2 cents. Hmmm, if only I dwell within the fanfiction world, since the authors are always looking for a good beta. Too bad, it's just a thought.

Not in Kansas

"Dorothy, you aren't in Kansas anymore"
-
How true. It's my new favourite quote. It is versatile and can be applied to any circumstances. I think the meaning behind this quote is "wake up, darling, not everything is what it seems. The things you know of are changing and you have to move on."
-
It's most certainly a love/hate relationship between me and education in general. I love to hate it, ranging from studies to going to school to homework etc. At the same time, I hate to feel affection for it. As I just couldn't do without it, can't I?
-
Ever since Primary school, it has been repetitive. Holidays end, and I will lament over it. A school year ends, I too lament.
-
Sighs, now I'm in Poly, you would have thought that I've wise up. If there is something that still remains, it's this.
-
I can't believe I spend my time writing all these instead of posting what I already planned to post. There are a couple of pre-written drafts on topics I've been wanting to post. Yet, these words just flowed and flowed, especially at night.
-
One another note, nothing like a look at other blogs and my own entries of the past to get a new perspective of stuff.
-
I'm guilty of reading people's blogs, sometimes. It changes my view on things and allows me to reflect.
-
I even read my past entries and cringe. Memories best remain as memories. Looking back, I wondered how I weathered through. A human is stronger than I expected.
-
Well, well, this blog has exist for a long time, since I picked up the courage to start it. It exists mainly for my pleasure and an outlet to write and keep in touch with English. God knows I need it.
-
Yes, over the months, I included slang and what not into my posts, but that's for certain. I live and breathe fanfiction for years. Generally, I hang out at fanfiction site and read those authors' stories.
-
Alright, enough already, I should think.

Food for thought

"I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to become a vegetarian"

Found some really hilarious and what I think, sarcastic one-liners on fanfic.

Some made me go "how utterly delicious" and others made me go "Wahahaha, in your face!" They really suit my tastes, I used to collect some of these one-liners in the past but tossed them aside as time passes. Mayhaps I will post everything here tonight, or not.

Wow! There's still 1/4 of the year to go and already my blog posts are nearly hitting last year's tally. Indeed, what an incredible feat, for me anyway.

My posts are mainly for ramblings and trying to keep in touch with my English skills. It's been about 2 years since I had English lessons. The only way to maintain it is to write in proper sentences. *Sighs* I'd love to take English lessons once more; I would need to refresh my memories on all those tenses and past-perfect and especially grammar. Perhaps I'll sign up for English classes in the near future...

It's another day in paradise for me for the next 3 days. I'll probably have nothing much to write, unless it's about more disgruntlement.

Ramblings

Another post for the miscellaneous stuff.

First of all, I wanted to scream! What happen to Fanfiction website!? I need my fix, now!

God, I sure hope it's not my problem, whatever that may be. I don't mind that much if they have maintenance problems or what. Just give me back my Fanfiction by tomorrow morning and everything will be fine.

As of now, thank goodness, Fanfiction is back on. Yay!

I've read many novels so far. I'll probably spend some time reviewing some of the novels these few days. For don't what reason, I don't feel like typing much.

I'm getting depressed. Maybe it's due to the fact that school is reopening soon. Yes, it's immature of me to demand a longer holiday. If the holiday is any longer still, I'll become a worm.

I'm aiming for a total of 1500 posts in the Lex by the time I go back to school. It's not that hard to achieve that, as long as there are people who will play in the 2 threads I frequent.

There is painting work going on in the housing estates. Gone are the sunny red, orange and yellow paint, here comes dreary green and more green. I've seen the sample of the end result, it's really different. It's this mix of greenish-blue and green design.

Oh yes, my cousin finally gave the disc containing the photos of her wedding, with me as her bridesmaid. Some of the pictures are rather flattening, if I must say so myself.

Last but not least, I made some New Moon-inspired banner and avatar today. It's quite different from my usual banners. I'll post them up on Facebook as soon as I edited them and perhaps on here too.

That's all for now.
