Silver Lining

Now that I have time to cool off and take a closer look at my grades. I can see that they aren’t that bad. Of course, I am not as happy as I ought to be.

Managerial Accounting 2: B+

It’s a well-deserved grade because I remembered the horror when I received the 50% coursework of C+. After calculations, I realised that I need to score at least 80 marks in the exam to push the grade to a B+ and I did it.

Legal Aspects of Business: B+

Again, I had a B+ for 50% coursework. I could have had an A but due to complications in the group project which I underestimated big time. So, this is a grade I can live with.

International Business: B+

I only know one component which is 20% of the overall grade. I received a B for mid-semester test.

Given the lack of understanding of the project specifications and low confidence levels of scoring, I must say we did a pretty good job. In one of my previous posts, I stated that I was the one who interpreted the problem and did most of the researching. So, kudos to me! Like I said, I deserve this grade. If I can get an A, it would be the best.

Practice of Entrepreneurship: A

The only A this semester. Thankfully, this subject did not let me down. I felt that the project was good and I had confidence in this subject. Therefore, it is brilliant to see the fruits of my labour.

Student Internship Programme: Pass

Big letdown here. I am still reeling from the shock that I failed to score a “Pass with Commendation”. How is that even possible? I work my a*** off to get a good appraisal and in the end, I was dealt with a huge blow from my liaison officer.

The most crucial aspect in this whole drama is the cumulative GPA.

Semester 3.2’s GPA is the second-worst in the 6 semesters with a point of 3.63. In the end, there is only a 0.01 drop in my CGPA which is the silver lining in these dark clouds. My overall CGPA of 3.75 is still within the range to get acceptance into local Universities. Phew, after all these hardships, isn’t this the most important goal?

So, fingers-crossed that I will acceptance to all three Universities and give me the choice to choose.

The Curse of B+

Bloody hell! This is a bummer! What the crap! It was the worst semester ever!

My goal is to get 3As and 1 B+ and in the end, all I got were 3 lousy B+ and 1 freaking A! 1 freaking A!

This is disastrous! How am I going to qualify to a local University with such grades?! This will completely pull down my GPA!

I won't be truthful if I say I aren't upset. I am really not happy with this. At least there should be another A to counter the curse of B+. Seriously. My semester 3.2 GPA falls to a all-time low of 3.63. Are you kidding me?!

Come to think of it, remember the previous month when I got a D and C+ for some components? My goal then was to pull the subjects up to B+ and that was met. So why am I not happy?

Since when did I move my goal up to As?

It's not just about passing. It's not even in my agenda to get Bs. Sobs. I am not pleased at all with this development.

A Galore

I've been thinking up a perfect title to match my results for Semester 3.1. I've been harbouring hopes of pulling off another miracle this time round.

I didn't manage to sign up for the SMS service for the results and had to wait until 12 plus before the results are updated online.

Guess what? It's A galore indeed. I'm so happy, actually. But somehow, my mood just don't pick up. I guess I'm really feeling blue. Alas, my otherwise perfect score is marred by a blemish that starts with the letter B.

Product Development & Innovation, oh, how I hate thee! I knew the subject was bad news from the start. I just knew it because I know we couldn't pull this off. I had my doubts from the beginning. There were so many aspects that I just don't feel good about.

Let's do a recap for the grades of each subject.

Event Management - Distinction. I can't contain my glee when I saw that I have a distinction for it! It's really a big surprise for me.

I thought I had some regrets regarding the exam and the group project but I'm so glad the teacher actually liked it. I guess he's not so bad afterall.

Special Interest Tourism - Distinction. My hope from the start, it's good that it didn't let me down. I have a good feeling for this subject despite some reservations from the start.

After the group project presentation, I knew that we clinched the deal because, pardon me, I think ours is the most well-done in the class.

Managerial Accounting 1 - A. Phew. I managed to score an A. I was lowering my expectations to a B+ days before the main examination because I was so worried.

Strategic Entrepreneurship - A. This is the subject that we worked so hard on and to please the weird lecturer. I'm happy that we managed to please him.

Product Development & Innovation - B. I should have see this coming. It's actually a little surprise that I scored this grade. Oh well, what is done is done. It's a freckle that can't be erased.

I don't know why the CGPA isn't updated yet. Don't tell me that I'm stuck at this CGPA. But it can't be, there should be changes.

I've one last shot at graduating with honours and I'll be damned if I don't get it. I will give semester 3.2 my best shot if only I have the higher powers on my side. Please do not let there be any class changes. Not at this critical moment.

How Blue Are You?

"Let's talk Blue Ocean"
-
Make your competitors irrelevant by finding that Blue Ocean. Alas, in exams, we can only fight in bloody red oceans, where sharks and barracudas circled.
-
It's that time again, when Mid-semester tests hit. I have 2 mid-semester tests this time round, adding on to the 2 tests done last week.
-
Managerial Accounting 1 test today was kind of alright, dare I say, easy. It was straightforward and I must get an A or else. But, I already knew I had 2 mistakes for MCQs. What can I say?
-
Wednesday's paper will be Strategic Entrepreneurship. It will be challenging, to quote the teacher. Ahhh, I sure hope for the best. He gives vague tips and is generally an elusive person. Sighs.
-
At least 4 As is my goal this term. I really have to keep up, if not improve my GPA. This term looks to be the toughest yet. I am so worried about the group projects. I am afraid of delivering less-than-stellar work.

Results for Sem 2.2

*Set off Fireworks*
-
*Punch fist in the air*
-
Edited at 2.10pm: CGPA of 3.76! Do you think I will have a shot at the Director's Honours List this time round?

OMG! I'm so, so happy right now!!

Nearly had a heart attack when the SMS came in just after 11am. This is what I've been waiting for for nearly a month. All those stress, all those emotions, I can't believe I'm saying this, but, it's all worth it when I lay my eyes on the grades.

2 distinctions! An all new record for me! Travel and Leisure and Managing SME deserve the honours. All the other subjects are As. As I said before, As really are addictive.

Club and Resort - A. Wow, I can't believe it! I thought the second test was pretty difficult. Guess they moderated it.

Communication Skills 2 - A. Not quite surprising. Perhaps only that I must have did well for my interview.
-
Travel & Leisure - Z. Another Wow. I thought that my test was kind of screwed as I left some blanks. The group project is a major plus factor.
-
Managing SME - Z. No surprise here. I wanted a distinction for this subject ever since Day 1. Good teacher equals good grade.
-
Franchising Business - A. Ahh well, I must be content. If not for that disastrous day, perhaps, just maybe, I can get a distinction? Glad that the teacher liked our work so much.
-
World Issues - A. Big surprise here! I thought World Issues is a pretty boring yet difficult subject. The contributing factor must be the group project.
-
All in all, to sum up this semester grades is "Big surprises. Expectations reached".

Thank you, thank you, in so many thousand languages! To all the lecturers, to my group members, to myself, of course, to those who supported me.

Now, I must wait for the GPA. *Rub hands in glee* It's going to be goooood.

Feeling Good

Or more specifically, good gut feel. I have this good feeling about my results for this semester. I slaved away just for this day of "glory".

Gahhh, I can't wait for tomorrow or Friday to roll in! There is a rumour going around saying that tomorrow will be the day where grades via SMS will be sent out. If that is so, then, my wait will be shorten by a day.

If not, on Friday, the website will predictably crash again due to the high influx of students logging in at the same time to check their results. It doesn't matter if I log in on the dot, because apparently, there will always be people faster than me. Furthermore, those staying nearer to school will have easier access than me who stayed so far away.

Anyway, I will be really pleased if I can get my aim of at least 4 As (with a Z), and 2 B+. I had a secret fixation of getting all As in one go. This is probably my only chance to do this. And I can get to show those who have a seed of doubt.

So very excited! This will be the perfect incentive for me to go shopping during my trip to Taiwan on Saturday. Yay or nay? All will be revealed either tomorrow or Friday.

I'm not going to go all complacent, obviously. I have strict goals in my mind. This is but a stepping stone. However, I think I more than earn it to celebrate. Anywho, I'm not going to think too much into it, although, truth be told, I have been thinking for at least a month now!

Finger crossed!

The Things You Do For ... Grades

I'm pleased.

If I keep this up, I'm on my way to reaching my goals, maybe even much more than I expected.

I got back my 2 mid-semester tests results, A for both. Which means 25% is secured. Furthermore, for Franchising Business, my individual report got an A too. 40% done.

For Communication Skills 2, I had 2 As as of now, still don't the percentage though.

Had an A for the 20% Club and Resort test 1 as well.

These As don't come easy. The amount of effort I put in, the stress levels I had for myself. Nobody but myself is giving me pressure.

Of course, I couldn't have done it without luck and something more.

My aim this time round is at least 3 As and the rest B+ without any Bs. With that, I can push my GPA to 3.7 and above. Would I may...

The race is on to make the rest of the tests and projects and presentations a fulfilling and rewarding one.

Musings & Oh The Horror!

Ahh, my travel bug has subsided, at least for now. It just makes me sick to think of flying on a plane.

But, not too long, I'll be envying those people who are travelling when I go to Changi Airport, again.

I miss the coldness and crispness of the air in Sydney! I miss Baskin Robins, whom ice-cream is just lovely. There are still so many flavours I have yet to try. I miss eating ice-cream on a cold day.

Next time, when I return to Australia, I'm going to Hunter's Valley, where the vineyards are. I'm going to get a kangaroo toy with a joey inside its pouch. I really want one of those.

Anyway, I got extra holiday in the end. Since Australia is one of the affected countries of H1N1 Flu.

I returned on 17th, Wednesday night, which means that I will only returned to school on Thursday, 25th. But, my course manager counted wrongly the days and told me to go back on Wendesday. So I did. In the end, he called me, and told me to go home.

Well, well, what a dilemma... It is a good thing, because I'm back home when I should be having lessons now. I just went for one lecture today.

Tomorrow, I'm back to school. It will be one lecture and the TNS programme.

Really, I can't understand why people have such a big reaction when they know that I came from Australia. Please, I may love the "extra holidays" that the school gives but people's reactions are starting to irk me.

I'm home for so many days, and I'm fine, so don't give me weird looks and asked why am I not quarantined. Hundreds of people are returning from affected countries each day, and you don't see every single one of them being ill.

And one more thing, in the affected country itself, everything is normal.

What bad luck! I was walking down the stairs and nearly fell, thereby, twisting my left foot. I'm walking with a limp now. And it hurts.

---------------------------------------------------------
Enough of all these. I'm really dead this term. (I thought that this term is where I could pull up my GPA...)

Gods, I can't believe the awful marks my group gets for the HRM PBL 1. 62%! And it's 20% of the whole subject combination! Worst still, there's PBL 2 with 25%! That's is altogether 45% of marks worth.

Actually, I can believe that.

I won't want to point fingers, especially here. Be it the group itself, or the familiarity or the toughness of the Problem-Based Learning 1, this was our first time doing it and being in this group. I can only guess that we didn't foresee this and that we didn't take it seriously.

PBL 2 will be different, at least for me. I'll put in my utmost efforts in doing my part and more. That being said, my resources are finite.

This is going to be a wake-up call for all of us. Hopefully. To look on the bright side, it's better this way. Better to get a rude awakening now and work hard next time, then the other way round, isn't it?

Seems like I have to rely on exams to pull my grade up afterall. To think, I was cheering at the prospect of riding on the projects due to the high percentage. I've forgotten that this was not my year 1 group I was with. It was at this time that I missed my old group even more.

Holy crap! With 20% being a C, I have to get a high A for my end-semester exam to cover up this blunder. At the very least, I have to get a B for the overall HRM grade or it's adieus to my three-point something GPA.

Gah! My GPA! My dream of going to study overseas, on a scholarship! Never had I been so in tune with this side of me before. I have my pride too.

Let's work hard and I won't have to see HRM again in my Poly life. Luckily, I didn't choose HRM as an elective...

I'm also sad to say that my MBS may be in deep water too due to implications. What am I going to do? MBS being computer-based is already a big problem. And now this...

This term seems all about exams. It seems to be wistful thinking that I can ride on the success of projects. Too much factors at stake here...

Enough of thinking what should have been and what could have been.

I'll stop here now. Pictures will be uploaded as soon as I have the time to do it.
