2009 F1 Singapore Grand Prix

Lovely, lovely race yesterday night! Really enjoyed it!

Last night F1 race marks the 2nd year where F1 Grand Prix was held in Singapore.

Singapore has such a beautiful skyline, wow! I wish I can cut some pictures out from the live show on TV. I'm looking for nice photos online but can't manage to find the distinctive ones that are taken this year. Perhaps it's too early for the photographers to put up the pictures...

A summary of the race last night. Lewis Hamilton from McLaren was in pole position and finished first, with Timo Glock from Toyota in second place and Fernando Alonso from Renault in third. A good start for Alonso I supposed, given the fiasco by Renault recently.

Kimi Raikkonen from Ferrari, my favourite, was in eleventh place. Quite disappointing actually. Felipe Massa is out of the season since he was injured with Giancarlo Fisichella taking over. Ferrari does not do quite well this season it seems.

In constructor standings, Brawn-Mercedes is currently in first position and Ferrari is third. However, more than 80 points stands between them.

Mark Webber was out of the race, again, like last year. And a few others from various teams were also out for various reasons. The safety car was only on track once.

What’s there not to like about F1? Fast cars, the thrill, the drivers... and the magnificent backdrop of Singapore make me feel exceptionally pleased and patriotic. With worldwide spectators watching the race live and on TV, Singapore has once again makes its mark.

Did I mention how I love people from overseas making positive comments about Singapore? It just makes me proud to be a Singaporean.

Looking forward to next year’s Grand Prix! This time, I hope to be able to hear the sounds live.

Food for thought

"I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to become a vegetarian"

Found some really hilarious and what I think, sarcastic one-liners on fanfic.

Some made me go "how utterly delicious" and others made me go "Wahahaha, in your face!" They really suit my tastes, I used to collect some of these one-liners in the past but tossed them aside as time passes. Mayhaps I will post everything here tonight, or not.

Wow! There's still 1/4 of the year to go and already my blog posts are nearly hitting last year's tally. Indeed, what an incredible feat, for me anyway.

My posts are mainly for ramblings and trying to keep in touch with my English skills. It's been about 2 years since I had English lessons. The only way to maintain it is to write in proper sentences. *Sighs* I'd love to take English lessons once more; I would need to refresh my memories on all those tenses and past-perfect and especially grammar. Perhaps I'll sign up for English classes in the near future...

It's another day in paradise for me for the next 3 days. I'll probably have nothing much to write, unless it's about more disgruntlement.

Of plans and books

What to update? Hmmm.

Nothing much going on, but to prevent the blog from being stagnant and breeding mosquitos, I'll make a post full of trivial stuff.

Recently, I've thought up of a phrase, "7 hours is long enough, 1 month will pass fast enough, 2 years will come soon enough". Funny how time works.

I'm not kidding when I said I'm going to Orlando, Florida, USA when I graduate from Poly. I don't know if people will take me seriously for what I say now but wait and see. Never had I been this determined to do something for myself, not even to get a higher-than-average GPA. This time, I'm perfectly serious and I've plans to show it.

Technically, it's not even 2 years because I'll graduate by Feb 2011 and there's only 18 months left. So far yet so near.

Already, I'm counting my finances but ultimately, all I can do is to earn and save. A trip to USA will be a bomb and don't even talk about the valuation and exchange rates when 2011 rolls in. My predictions is that US$ rate will go up and I deeply hope that S$ will strengthen in value by then.

One more resolution that I made today; to go for driving test in the next long holiday which is Feb 2010. By any chance, I'll get my driving license on the first attempt and will be free to drive my father's car. Oh, how I wish.

In the midst of making plans in the next 2 years to come, I've been sleeping, working, complaining, and of course, reading.

I just can't get enough of Lynn Kurland's novels! They are one the few great things that I discovered while on the hunt for good books. First is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, second is Spirited Away by Cindy Miles, third has got to be Lynn Kurland's.

I remembered browsing at the Romance section at Borders and found one of her novels by chance. I didn't bought that title then but decided to take note of the author and searched for her books in the library. I wasn't certain if her books will be great and all.

Went to the library and only saw one the titles on the shelves. Ahh well, better than nothing. Sebsequently, I borrowed her other titles, one at a time. Frustrating but rewarding and makes things sweeter.

Then, came a time when I can't find the other titles besides the 3 I'd read. Went to Borders and Kinokuiya and ended up buying 3 titles over a period of time.

There are still many to look forward to! Recommended Stardust of Yesterday to the library and am pleased to say they took it into consideration and the title is currently in transit, whatever that means. I've already reserve it and am the first in line. Hopefully, I'll read it soon. Hahaha, what a fine chase it has been. I've checked Borders, Kinokuiya, contemplate whether to order from Amazon or Borders...

Unfortunately, the other remaining titles are not available in the library and in my school library as well. I've thought up of the what was at first a good idea I didn't consider. TP's library. Alas, there are only a few titles available and most of them I've already read.

Plan C will be to order in with the aid of Kinokuiya. At least, they don't change freight or extra costs, or so they tell me. I'm still thinking about it. If my longing gets worst, I'll do it.

For now, I'll wait impatiently for the next coveted novel: Thirteen Chances by Cindy Miles. It's really bad that people get to read it weeks ago but I'm still left hanging.

Back to Lynn Kurland's novels. Her novels are that wonderful and sweet with time travel romance! There are so many characters that inter-weave that it gives me a headache and I have to refer to the genealogy chart all the time. What made it worst is that although the books can be read independently, characters from other titles will make cameos and appearances. It's only one's nature to want to refer back to their stories and to know more than what they summarised.

As a result, I find myself borrowing the titles that I've read for a second time. Such is the workings of me. I'll need to re-read a book to check on details.

All in all, there are like 6 titles left for me to read, 1 of which I'll borrow when I go back to school, the others' futures are unknown. Possibly, I'll just go with Plan C. Makes everything easier.

It's hard to find good romance novels without all the explict "scenes". Lynn Kurland has got to be one of those rare authors who does that. Very PG rating. I highly recommended her titles, to be read in the sequence.

Gosh, I can ramble on and on about trivia.

F1 season is coming to town, yes! I may not be the greatest fan but I certainly enjoy F1 and its drivers.

Letters of the extreme

To whom it may concern,

I’ve decided to quit. I was blinded by greed at that point of time and now I’m filled with regrets. Greed as one knows is one of the deadly sins.

What happen to my policy of “No Regrets”, I’m not too sure. As such, I’m will be going under mediation for a couple of days and is deeply sorry to send you this letter.

You won’t ever see me again, I’m sure of it. I’ll look back and think of what a bad experience I had during all this time and laugh at my stupidity. In a moment of softness, I did it and now feel sorry for myself. No one is to be blamed but myself. I will reflect on my mistakes.

Goodbye. I won’t say take care because in absolute truth, I don’t care at all.

With total regrets.

Haha, now that’s a letter from my heart. I was telling my father that I was blinded by greed in taking up the job etc, and decided it would make a good letter. Crap, I really regretted it! I moan and groan all day because of it. Arghh! I hate it!

My holidays are spoilt because of it. Don’t tell me how fortunate I am because I don’t feel fortunate at this point of time. I want to rant and rave!

To whom it may concern,

It’s me, again. I know I’ve stated that you won’t be hearing from me but in truth, I’ve changed my mind.

Funny how one’s mindset can do a 180 degrees change when one has seen the light. In fact, greed is one of the main components at work here. I’ve made plans that required cash and who else better to provide what I need than this?

This is naught but an obligation. I once said I will leave when 3 months is up, but now, given the circumstances I faced and made, I’ll carry on for as long as possible.

If you think I like it, you are wrong. I still dislike it greatly and what keep me going is the thoughts of the grand plan I’ve made for myself.

I really put my foot in my mouth this time. But, the ends do justify the means and I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure my plans take off; regardless of the troubles I faced now. Ahh, the essence of youth. I’ll just have to grit my teeth and bear it with a painful smile.

I’ll probably end here now and won’t digress further.

With absolute regrets.

This is another of the letter I composed not a few days ago, when I suddenly made plans for the graduation trip I'm determined to make in 2011. This important trip will be at Florida, USA. Destination; Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Orlando.

Afterall, aren't graduation trips a tradition? I've made up mind about it and so, did a double-take regarding the work.

I won't want to say and plan more than what it is lest I jinx it. However, costs have to made and plans to acquire the cash will be constantly on my mind. The estimated cost will be a few thousands and it is going to "kill" me. So, all the more I should save and earn what I can now. 2 years is a long time, yet it will pass by quick enough.

The thoughts of the newly planned Wizarding World theme park is still fresh in my head and then, it was almost done. I remembered being so excited over it, a few years back. Too bad the newspaper cutting I made didn't have the date on it. Time do pass fast.

It will open in spring 2010 and "groans", I'll only be a year late. Ahh well, I do envy those people who can make that debut trip there in 2010. But, it's still a good timing for me. The last movie will be out in mid 2011 and people will continued to flock to the theme park. Furthermore, one year will be gone and its novelty will wear off but not too much. It's the perfect timing to go!

It's lucky I made my plans now.

Well, as I said, the ends do justify the means and I've officially dug a grave, jumped into it and covered myself with dirt. I'll just have to endure it.

A short teaser

Funny how one's mindset can change. A complete 180 degrees change.

I'll elaborate more in the next installment.

I don't even have time to write a proper entry.

My brother knows my so-called schedule: Wake up, eat, sleep, go to work, eat, go online, sleep, in that order! Boy, am I pathetic. I feel pathetic.

But, the ends do justify the means so I'm sort of gritting my teeth and go along with it. Afterall, what I'm interested in is the end. The process can be tough, but I'll just have to endure it.

Great day!

Had a great day yesterday! My mother was due for her eye check-up at Raffles Hospital after her surgery and I tagged along with my parents because I wanted to go to Borders and Kinokuniya.
-
The check-up was surprisingly fast and we were on our way to Orchard at about 10 plus.
-
We parked at Nee Ann City and I had a curry puff before walking to Ion Orchard to cross the underground linkway to Wheelock Place. I was feeling particularly like the tourists on the walk-way. The sun was not shining too brightly and the streets were quite empty for once. What a lovely feeling!
-
This was my parents’ first time in Ion since my father hated crowds. The shops are opened and we decided to shop around later as I wanted to go Borders first. Had a hard time finding the linkway to Wheelock Place since this was only my second official time there.
-
As usual, Borders fails to satisfy and amuse me. I’m beginning to feel irritate at it. The books I want are not available, even Thirteen Chances by Cindy Miles which was just released from USA. I get it that importation takes time but why can’t my wish came true?
-
In the end, I bought a novel by Lynn Kurland, the only available title at Borders. I’m wondering if they ever take stock and update their collection. This is not funny at all. I asked about the special orders from overseas and it will cost me $6.90 extra for each book.
-
Walked to Ion again, this time to do window-shopping. Love the feeling of spaciousness! Decided to do lunch at the so-called famous Food Mall. It was quite empty except for a few patrons as lunch time was still not here.

-

-
-
Finally found what I’ve been looking for! Royce Chocolate brings back fond memories of the memorable trip to Hokkaido 2 years ago. I remembered visiting the shop in Hokkaido and my auntie buying and sharing the chocolate squares on the bus.
-
Royce is tucked away in a small corner at B4 at Ion. The store is awash in blinding white and gives it a clinical yet pristine feel. The various types of chocolates are displayed prominently in glass squares.
-
One of the staff served us and let us tried the Champagne and Bitter Nama Chocolates. It is heavenly. Bought a box of Bitter Nama Chocolates which cost $15 and is stored in this silvery material to keep it cool for 5 hours. I’ll try the other products next time. The Potatochip Chocolates looks delicious...

-
S$115 (Not by scale)
S$115 (Not by scale)
(Not by scale)
-
Did more window-shopping. Gazed in wonderment at the prices of the Swarovski crystals figurines at Swarovski. The lighting effects and the cuts of the crystals make it shine and dazzle. Of course, it makes my hands itch. I’ve a soft spot for cute things. A couple of the crystal figurines caught my eyes and I went squeal.
-
Went to ThreeSixty Marketplace located at F4 of Ion. It was so cold in there. And it will no doubt make you feel colder when you see the prices of some of the fruits. $68 for a watermelon, anyone? How about $100+ bunch of the finest grapes from Japan?
-
Walked back to Takashimaya and we went to Kinokuniya. I looked for my books and finally bought another novel from Lynn Kurland. That’s it. I’m reserving the other titles from the library in Singapore. No chance in getting Thirteen Chances.
-
I asked the Information counter about it and was told it will be here in about 2 week times. Once again, I asked about the special orders and it will cost me no extra to import a book. Wow, Kinokuniya really went my book-O-metre.
-
I’ll probably go back in 2-3 week times to see.
-
Went to the food section at Takashimaya and bought drinks. The boxes at the various chocolate stores are so pretty and cute! I’d love to get my hands on them.
-
Bought some vegetables from Cold Storage and went home.
-
What a morning! It’s been quite some time that the 3 of us went out on a weekday, to Orchard no less. One of favourite places in Singapore. Window-shopping is better than none at all.

Digging one's own grave

It's one thing to dig one's own grave and another to jump into a ready-made grave.

But to dig one's own grave and jump into it, is just pure stupidity. All I need now is to use a shovel to cover myself in dirt. *Sighs*

New Moon latest trailer

OMJ!

Got this link from my friend. http://www.stumbleupon.com/s/#74cIew/bit.ly/askRN/ It's the latest New Moon trailer. I don't know if it's shown on MTV awards but anyway, it's totally awesome!!

Just watching it alone gives me the tingles. Oh my, it's just so gorgeous and I'm not talking about the actors. The visuals, the layout, the music, the action, the characters! Wow!

New plotlines were added into the original story but it seems fine. I'm not sure about the fight between Robert Pattinson and one of the Volturi guards (Felix, maybe). It will provide more action to the film definitely.

Love the red robes of the Volturi! The Volturi are quite nicely done. Jane is portrayed so wonderfully as I said before. Taylor as Jacob is great! I especially love the "visions" or "ghost" of 'Edward' that 'Bella' saw and hear whenever she did something dangerous.

One peeve. What's with the black or "metallic grey" Volvo?! It's quite ugly, to be blunt. I found out that the original Edward's car; a S60R is no longer in production which explains the lack of presence of it during Twilight the movie.

But, can't they find one that is at least silver in colour? Or better still, with their means; I don't think they can’t afford to rent a S60R Volvo from someone. From the C30 in Twilight the movie to a SC60 in New Moon and possibly Eclipse...

While that hardly warrant an outrage from fans, aren’t details to be paid attention to? If they say the colour of the car don’t matter, then what if they got Edward’s hair colour wrong? Or the Cullens’ eye colour and the Volturis’? Please it’s just details, you know, Forks don’t even have to be green. Details, details. To quote the Lex, the bat-mobile has gone purple. It’s like saying it’s ok for Bella to become a hippy.

Kristen Steward’s expressions seems to have improve a little. Most of the scenes still show her to be blank-faced. But the agony scene in bed is very lovely.

New Moon movie is definitely going to be quite the movie of the year after Harry Potter HBP. I can just feel it. Going to re-read New Moon soon and get ready for the December’s release. *Cries* I could have watch it on November only if I visit USA.

Woohoo!

Problem with Blogger

Problem with Blogger, again! How long has it been since I last complain about Blogger?

The last time something like this happened, I combed the net for solutions, and I ended up changing my proxy server. Voila! It worked.

But after some months (now), suddenly, I found that I can’t go online or log in my messenger at all. They told me that there’s something wrong with the proxy server, I distantly remembered changing it and I changed it back after much thinking.

However, once I changed back to the original proxy server, Blogger goes back to the same problem, no icons at all! No spell-check, no insert picture, no insert video, no colour selection, etc. Just plain old space to type. Arghhh! I’m so angry!

My cousin told me to use Blogger in draft and the icons are back, all expect spell-check. I relied heavily on spell-check. Where is spell-check?! I found out that the latest tool bar issued my blogger is without spell-check although there are many new features in this new tool bar. As such, I will have to use reliable Microsoft Word to type a draft first before copying over to Blogger.

The new colours by this new tool bar are kind of attractive though not that bright for me.

What a mess!

Results for 2.1

Got my results for semester 2.1! Yeah!

I've waited for a day and more for it...

Good news for me! 3 As and 2 B+! Oh gods, thank you so much! I'm surprised that my cross-cultural psychology has an A! I never thought of that.

But, MBS is a little disappointing. B+ for overall means that my 40% of main exam did not do so well. Oh well, give a little, gain a little.

HRM is a B+ which is more than what I hope for. TNS is an A which is great! Business Finance is an A! This subject is the one which I worried the most.

Alright, my overall GPA for the 3 semesters is 3.67. A slight increase from the 3.63 in semester 1.2. Please don't fluctuate anymore.

I want that novel

Noooo!

Looks like I can't go to Borders or Kino next week. I should wait at least 2 weeks for the shipment to come in before spending money to make a trip to town and ended coming back home empty-handed.

I truly hate the bookstores in Singapore! @#$%*! And the libraries too!

I always envy those who can get books like this *with a snap of the fingers*.

I searched through Borders website in the US and Thirteen Chances by Cindy Miles is selling there. So is BarnesandNoble.com and amazon.com. Arghhh! I want that novel!

I can always ordered it through websites but it will take too long and I'm paranoid about people making off with the credit card number.

Singapore can be so stagnant in advancements...

Ramblings for the day

Aww, semester 2.1 results are not out yet. To think that I spent the whole day and evening waiting in anticipation over it.

It's actually coming out tomorrow officially, but for the past 2 semesters, the results always came out one day in advance.

Tomorrow then, it will be the day of reckoning. If I get 3 As out of 5 subjects, I'll treat myself with something I've been eyeing for. For the Slytherin tie, I guess I'll wait till next semester's results.

It's been some lazy afternoons for me. Gosh, work starts again tomorrow afternoon. Oh, what joy. I can't last without an afternoon nap.

My mother went for an eye operation on Tuesday. This means that she can't work or cook or do anything in general. Cooking dinners will be passed to me.

It's kind of alright. I can cook some simple dishes on my own. It's just that dinner will start later than usual.

Went to the library to try my luck in getting the books I want, namely books by Lynn Kurland. I managed to get one. Oh well, better than none. I've been so angry at Singapore's libraries for a long time.

Found out that Cindy Miles has released a new novel called Thirteen Chances! Arghh! I want it!

I thought that since it's a newly released novel, it should be available at Popular. But no, I should have known it a long time ago. I shall look for it at Borders or Kino next week. Giving them more time to import the novel in.

Wanted to buy this book called Men in White. It's about the PAP rise to power in Singapore and all about the leaders, especially Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The assistant told me that only today it will be sold as they are catering for the pre-orders first.

So, I went back today to get the book. Managed to get it and it's my favourite hard-cover. It cost $36 plus, after a 15% discount. Will start it soon, when I finished my novel.

Did a gradient nail design for myself today. After looking through some nail designs tutorials, I tried it out. I used a white base with purple, glitter nail varnish. It looks pretty good to me. Soon, I'll get my green glitter nail polish and do a Slytherin design.

Am ill again! Why?! Is it me or the weather?

I'm aching all over, blocked/runny nose, sore throat (again!). All that is missing is Fever. I'm feeling really pathetic now. *Sighs*

Hopefully, I'll be better tomorrow...

Working for the first time

This came 1 week too late. I'm either too busy or have no mood to write anything.

On Thursday, 3rd of September. I, started working for the first time in my 18 years life.

I work at Kumon, a Japanese learning centre in which they use this "out-of the norm" method of teaching. Students will learn according to their pace and work on worksheets that are not based on school stuff.

I was once a student and both of my brothers are currently there so I think this is what it easier for me to enter as a marker.

I didn't even have to go for an interview. I expressed interest in the job and my brother helped me to ask the instructor-in-charge. I was half joking when I told my family this. I didn't realise my brother would really go and approach her. Thanks anyway!

I was told to speak with her informally and Voila!, I got the job.

On the first day, I was told to be there at 3pm, which the centre is not open yet. Another marker taught me the required stuff to mark the Maths worksheets first. Boy, was it a boring, repetitive task! By 4pm, I was squirming in my seat, desperate to get out.

Perfecting the art of drawing "100" has never been so tough! By a few hours, my back and neck area are aching like no tomorrow. Imagine confine to the chair, with not much space to move around, marking Maths worksheets and more worksheets with no breaks except for dinner.

This kind of job is not for me. I can't sit still for hours doing the same, old work.

7 hours past by, and thus my first day at work ended. I've never been so glad to get out and go home. I can't imagine doing this for months.

Luckily, Kumon only operates 4 days a week; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I'm now currently working the 4 days until I know of my time-table for the next semester. The, I'll work for the days I'm most free.

I doubt that I'll be that free when semester 2.2 comes, because I'll taking 1 more subject than others. Oh well, we'll see. For certain, I'll be there on Saturdays.

Friday came and I dreaded going there. The centre is supposed to be open only at 5pm and closes at 9pm. But of course, things are never black-and-white. Students start arriving at 4pm and go home at only 10pm plus. Thus, we're stuck there until most students go home.

Marked more worksheets and my "100s" are more artistic.

The marking process goes something like this: Compare answers on the worksheet with the answer booklet, if all correct on both sides of a page, give a big "100", if not, underline the wrong answer, write your initials and the time taken to complete by the student on the worksheet, record the details on the student's record book (Eg, my initials, time taken, and the number of wrong answers or bad handwriting). Repeat the process. Oh, and you've got to be fast and steady.

One thing Kumon can improve is that they should use computer-based systems to store the students' data. Excel will be very useful here. How medieval, to record things by hands! Not only does it waste time, it also waste human resources. But, who am I to judge if they can provide jobs, right?

With answer booklets provided, things are much easier. But, one peeve, they expect the markers to know basic counting skills and so, no answer booklet is provided for 4A worksheets; the counting of dots.

Oh gods, I hate marking 4A worksheets! I'm going to groan silently if I saw one 4A worksheet again. The dots makes me dizzy and as a marker, I'm not supposed to mark wrongly. One or two questions on the number of dots are fine, but the whole 10 pages of worksheets are dots!

I had the chance of witnessing something funny on Friday afternoon. This little boy who I think is primary 2 came up to another marker and declined to do his assigned classwork. He began ranting when the marker told him to do it. "I hate Kumon!" "Kumon is stupid!" "What golden rules? Black rules more likely!" "I'm in primary 2 yet they expect me to primary 4 stuff!" "I hate this instructor!" "I failed the given exam and yet she still let me proceed to the next level."

Haha, I almost laugh at at his antics. I'm trying to wipe the smile off my face then. These are something I heard all the time at home. At that time, I was thinking, "Hmm, you'll make a fine pair with my brother. Together, you two will be a force."

My mother told me what will I do if that boy approach me. Well, for one, I don't anyone will approach me because I'm new there. And, to be cheeky, I'll edged him on and said "Oh yes, my brothers thought so too!"

Seriously speaking, I think Kumon is a waste of time and money. True, theoretically, it's supposed to be better as it caters to a student's pace in learning. But, in the real world, nothing is based on theory.

If you have trouble doing your worksheets, you'll be stuck there till you improve. If you get an answer wrong, they expect you to know your mistake without explaining anything to you. How are you going to learn if you don't even understand where is wrong? As a former student there, I understand their plight and difficulties.

I remembered the times when I got so frustrated at the endless fraction sums I had to do that I took forever to complete and doodles aimlessly on the worksheets. In the end, using PSLE as a reason, I quited Kumon.

Kumon is only suitable for young kids before they enter primary school, I felt. By the time they enter primary school, they will be able to count without using fingers and toes and their English reading skills will be quite good. However, after that, tuition for school topics makes more sense because it will help them in their actual school work.

Working for 3 days there has made me seen my fair share of things. Bad handwriting, wrong answers for the whole worksheets, etc. I did a double turn when I marked one worksheet that has all the wrong answers and that person's level is quite high. I wonder what was he/she doing.

I'll be getting a monthly pay (Oh no!), and the rate is $5 per hour. It's quite little actually. I have thought the rate will be like $6 or $7. It's the same rate as McDonald's!

I've to admit though, it's a cushy job, literally. I get to sit until my butt hurts. All I have to do is to mark worksheets. I don't have to report to anyone of import in a sense. $5 per hour is quite good, according to my parents. I have to contribute 14% to my CPF account too! How much can I contribute anyway?

I've been thinking, the 'probation' period is 3 months, which semester 2.2 would have started. I assume I'd work till 3 months is over, since that's the requirements. And if I'm not coping well, I'll have to end the job when 3 months is up before my GPA falls. Besides, year 3 is going to be a blast, like a rocket. I won't have time to do things like this.

Work. What is work? It's nothing but a means of earning cash. Putting in 100% is mandatory, this I understand and will do. 101%? No thanks. Working is getting the experience you need to climb up the ladder and earn more cash to acquire the things you need and want. Working is about surviving. Nothing more, nothing less.

Is my attitude right for someone so young and barely out in the workforce? I don't know for sure. My thinking is, I'll do my best in what is required of me but to put in more, I will not. Unless, I'm the one who is the boss of the business.

Adieu for now.

Poly class BBQ

Wednesday:
Met up with my Poly friends at Downtown East for the class chalet cum BBQ. I've to admit, this is the first time I went for a class BBQ for a Poly class.

Supposed to check in at 2pm, but, due to unexpected circumstances, we went in at only about 5 plus.
Started the fire quite smoothly and the girls just did the work since the guys came later. Ahh well, it's been long since I ate BBQ food. Most of the food were ordered in from the BBQ wholesaler. We only had to get drinks and some more food from the supermarket.
By 7 plus, most of the food were finished and we went up to the room. It's small and on the second floor located to the far end. A distance from the BBQ pit so it was not quite ideal.
They played drinking game but I didn't participate.
At around 9 plus, I went home by bus because I will start working on Thursday afternoon.

Movie outing

Wednesday:

Going for a movie outing with cousins and brothers. We're watching UP at Marina Square.

Bought the tickets first and went for lunch at KFC.

I thought the cinema will be quite empty but no, it's filled up with young children and their parents.

UP is a very touching movie, and I cried. Not a big deal since I cried at practically every movie. The dedication of the old man to his wife is so touching.

Had a dentist appointment in the evening so we went off.

TNS 2 & 3

Day 2 (Sunday):

Woke up to a rainy morning. I silently (OK, not so silently) cheered at the prospect of it. I would meant that we'll get to stay indoors right? Wrong!

At around 10.45, with 15 minutes to spare before McDonald's breakfast orders close, we ordered breakfast to be delivered to us. I was really hungry since last night.

After a nice breakfast, we were told to get ready for the continuation of the visits to the Little India. I think most of us are reluctant to do so. We thought we could evade it, but can't, obviously.

Most people just want to stay in the apartments instead of going to these places. And if the teachers wanted our opinions, they should respect it. What's the point of asking if there is only one choice?

I get that this is a school-organised event to get to know the cultural side of things, but this is supposed to be an informal event. That's why my mood turn bad when I saw the itinerary in the 1st place.

Took the bus to little India and walked around in the rain. It's Sunday, and it's raining. Little India was filled with people and worst, it's raining. Did I mention raining?

After one big round, we still went back to the Indian shop for our lunch. I'm not a fan of Indian dishes so I shared with my friend. So, it was oily, too oily to do good...

Took the MRT to Bugis and through the crowded Bugis street and to 四马路观音庙 to do god knows what. In the end, we just sat there for an hour plus and stoned. My mood was not any better and it will get worst in other circumstances. But, I tried to control it.

Left for Payar Lebar where we were supposed to gather at 6.30pm to go to Geylang Serai Market. It's like this huge bazaar except that it filled with people and smoke and goods. I can't stand crowds nor smoke so together with some friends, we went in for a turn before coming out.

Didn't get anything from there. Had takeaway subway for dinner. This was my second subway in 2 days. Then, we went off first. I can hardly wait to go back to the apartments.

Decided to take bus 69 from Bedok interchange. Seems like a bad idea because the bus took so long to come. I timed, it was like 15 minutes. At last, on the way back!

Played the second challenge "Who wants to be a Slumdog Millionaire" in the empty UK room. Some of us were still wanting to go there and bathe in hot water before they start but we bathed after. Basically, we had to prepare questions for the other teams regarding the country of our room.

In the morning, we had fun picking out facts from wikipedia and making up wrong answers. We made it pretty tricky.

Germany's questions were a laugh. India got first in the second challenge and we, the "Japanese" got second.

The other people and the teachers went for movie in the lecture hall but I didn't go with them. I was already cranky and wanted to take a nice, hot shower before relaxing.

Went Caltex again with those who didn't go for the movie. Bought breakfast for tomorrow.

Slept at about 2am.

Day 3 (Monday):

Hooray! Was ready to go back home!

Woke at around 9 plus, I think. The others were still asleep because they came back late. Had disgusting cup-noodles and milo for breakfast. I really hate the taste of cup-noodles. It's vile.

Saw the third challenge. It was dancing related to the assigned country. Wanted to forfeit along with others. But, all the same, we searched for it via youtube. There's the traditional Geisha dance, the robot dance, the ParaPara etc.

It was free and easy for us until 4pm. Much as I wanted to go back to Orchid Park Sec during this year Teachers' Day celebrations, I can't because of they ended quite early. *Sighs* next year then.

Decided to go for the long awaited movie: The Proposal. At about 12.45pm, we went to wake the others from other rooms to see if they wanted to go.

10 of the girls went and there were so many people, mainly school-children in the cinema. The Proposal is a hilarious movie! Had a great time watching it.

We thought we'll be late for the challenge since the movie ended after 4pm and we had to take a bus back. However, the challenge was pushed back as always.

It was nearly 5pm when it finally started. Before that, packed up our luggage and took some group photos.

Our group decided to do the Visa commercial dance who took a leaf out of the book from "Where the hell is Matt?". It has a deeper meaning than just the Visa advertisement. In "Where the hell is Matt?", he visited many countries and dance a jig. It's transnational, we said.

Haha, after 3 challenges, Japan was in second place with Israel in the first.

Then, came the dreaded part. I had to lug my luggage from one end to the main entrance which is like one stop bus-stop away because I'll need to return the DVD I borrowed. I was huffing and puffing along the way.

With my father's car in sight, I hurried to deposit my stuff from my hands.

And, I'm backed home with my beloved bed and bigger bathing space. Home-cooked meals are the best.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overall, it's been an experience to have. The room-mates are lovely too. But, I can't see myself living there for 3 weeks without losing my temper. I was in very low humor on the second day. If with other people, I'd have snapped at them.
So glad, that it's just 3 days and is informal.
TNS day 1
Day 1 (Saturday):
My father drove me to school as I was carrying a lot of stuff for the 3 day stay in the apartments at school. I met up with my friend to borrow DVDs in the library before lugging our luggage over to the apartments.
Draw lots for the roommates. Well, I know most of them anyway. Only 3 rooms will be occupied instead of 4. The country we got was Japan.
Moved in. It's hot and dusty. Immediately, I switched on all the air-cons in the bedrooms to 16 Degrees Celsius and put the fan on high. It's really too bad the living room has no air-con.
Saw our 1st challenge. We had to prepare a dish from the country we got, which was Japan in our case. It's so much easier to prepare than the fare from Israel and France. At least we didn't have to research.
Went to Tampines 1 for lunch and to buy the necessary ingredients for the Japanese curry and miso soup. It's all instant, except for the chicken, potatoes and carrots.
After that, left for Lucky Plaza via the Express bus service in which we have to pay $2 plus. And because there was so many people, there isn't any seats for us. Well, isn't that dandy?
We had to "infuse" ourselves in the "culture" and took some pictures. Took another bus to the Peranakan Museum. I liked this part the best. It's really insightful to see the cultural side of the Peranakans. Had fun embossing pictures on the paper too. The designs are really beautiful!
A few of us decided to cab back because of the heat and the crowds. No way am I going to waste money on a bus, standing no less for half an hour. I rather spend a little more, comfortable in a taxi. Apparently, some of us had the same idea.
Reached first and started cooking. Found out the stoves don't work and the hot-plate too. So, we used the one in the empty UK room. It took too long to boil the water on hot-plate and we had a good idea. To boil the water in the kettle and used it to cook the chicken pieces. The cooking was quite a success.
Finally, after everything was done, we took the pots and some cutlery to the BBQ pit. The Israel team were already there. They prepared chicken wraps. The French team prepared garlic soup and French toast. The teachers started their grading and tasting since the guys' teams (Germany and India) were late.
And that was our supposedly dinner. Knowing me, however, I just ended up eating some rice and miso soup. I did try the sausages too. The BBQ, in the last minute, was cancelled.
Went to opposite petrol station for some food. We wanted to go for a midnight movie but didn't.
I brought Love Actually the uncut version there because my friend asked me to. Got all of them excited over the uncensored parts. Haha, however, they were not fated to watch it as it would not start in all the laptops. We tried and tried to no avail. Ahh, they were disappointed.
Bathed in cold water since the heater was spoilt. Slept at around 2 plus and woke up at 4 plus because of the air-con. It's really, really cold despite me setting it to 25 Degrees Celsius and a low fan. I wore long pants, jacket and socks with a holey blanket.
So, I woke up around 4 plus since I can't stand it. Felt quite awake then. Went online for a while and went to bed in another room at about 5 plus. Slept till 7 plus and woke again. During the dawn, I switched off the air-con completely.
TNS
Ahh, where to begin? I'm in no mood to write anything now so inspiration will have to hit me before I'll update about the TNS 3-day-stay.
That will be tonight, I suppose.
Seriously, I've no time. Tomorrow I'll "leaving home" again. Sigh, you think I want this?!
A short and and bittersweet summary: It had been an experience to have, indeed. There are good moments, and even more bad moments.
I'm so thankful for the H1N1 flu to cut short the original 3 weeks stay. If 3 days has been a downward spiral, what will 3 weeks be? Hellish, I think.
I'll continue when I return from another movie outing! Yay!
