Happy Teachers' Day

Yesterday, we celebrated Teachers' Day. We went for a long run because of Aces day. Most people were walking or strolling anyway, so it was not considered a run.
After that, we went up to the hall to watch the teachers' day performance. It started with the some NCC members marching in and the Star Wars song was played. Then the teachers were escort out by the classes vice-chairmen and chairmen. The whole performance was really good. As usual, it consisted of touching words and dedications.
This will be my last year celebrating Teachers' Day as a Secondary student...But never mind, next year I'll definitely go back. On another note, I feel really good, maybe it is because there will be no exam for 1 week. I feel less stressful...
I also went to watch movie with my family yesterday. I watched Evan Almighty with my brothers while my parents watched 881. The movie was quite good and hilarious, but the movie I wanted to watch is Hairspray. Nevermind, I'll buy the VCD then.

Prelims--brief

On Monday, were my English Papers. The compo I did was alright, the other titles were difficult. The compo was " What do you like about being a student? What changes can be made to the school to make it more enjoyable?" I had many things to write about, haha. I found the compre ok, but that did not mean I will do well, of course.
On Tuesday were my Social Studies and A maths paper 1. The night before I was suffering from insomnia, I couldn't go to sleep... The social studies paper was good.. I had to protect my hand using plaster as I always gripped the pen too hard and my hand will become red and sore. I remembered my essays well enough.
The A maths, as usual, was a disaster. The 1st few questions were doable, but the subsequent questions were...
I was hiccupping away all night and morning. My father said it was because I was anxious, I don't know... Today, the A maths paper 2 was a complete disaster too. It was harder than paper 1. I'm not asking much, just let me get 30+ out of 80, and I will be more happy. To pass seems like an impossible thing to do.
Tomorrow are Chemistry and Chinese paper 1. I hate chemistry, so much to memorise...
Till next time

Pre-prelims 2007

1 day before my prelims exams. Tomorrow papers are English paper 1 and 2. I'm worried for my compo. I'm not a good speller. I'm worried that I will make unnecessary grammar errors... My grammar is not that good. How I wish we can bring dictionary to the exam hall.
I've no inspiration to write anything! I can't write narrative or stories. On most occasions, I will choose exposition essays as they only require stating. What should I do? I'm really afraid and uncertain. When I write essays, I need to think out the plot and all that. That alone requires a few hours...which will be impossible during exams.
That's why I can do quite well for compo practices and not during exams.
On Tuesday, social studies and A maths paper 1. I'm only going to memorise the essays on the themes Looking Ahead and Venice. I will memorise them again and again until I dream about them in my sleep... Nothing much to say about A maths. I sort of given up on it, but I can't get over my own barrier...
Bless me...

O lvl English Oral

Ahhh...I sort of messed up my exam yesterday. What should I do? I jerked at some parts of the reading passage. The picture discussion was ok, I supposed. It showed some boys touching a tree and looking at a piece of paper. There was nothing much to talk about.
The last component: conversation. The 1st question was something like " Do you enjoy going on school trips?" I used the phase, far and between, is there such a phase?
2nd question "Do you think school trip is better than learning in a classroom?" I agreed then went on talking about hand-ons and 1st hand experience.
3rd question, "Do you think conservation is important?" This was the worst!!! I actually said conversation instead of conservation!! That was so embarrassing!! I stumbled on the word twice and the examiners had to correct me!! I was tongue-tied and could not grasp the pronunciation properly. This was the worst thing that happened to me. Oh God!! I was so flustered then.
I only manage to give two points and when I paused, they told me I could go. I really hoped I don't get a merit... Please don't let me get a pass or merit...Please please please...
Prelims starts on Monday~!!!

Pressure

I really can't stand it, the intense pressure is killing me.
Doing all these past years A maths exam papers and O level papers is killing me. I really feel like crying... Everyday during maths lesson, it is doing A maths, A maths, and more A maths. This is due to the A maths prelims next week.
I hate you, A maths! I don't even care if I fail in the O levels. I'll be more than overjoyed to get a pass, but now my standard have dropped. Just give me an E8 or D7 and I'll be happy. I have long given up on any hope...
On another note, I'll be retaking my Chinese. There is nothing much to say about it...
All these unhappiness aside, our graduation night or prom will take place at Holiday Inn Park View on a Thursday. I need to start looking for clothes now, haha. The girls were discussing about it last week.
Don't know when I will update again...
Till next time
Let me be at peace~

O lvl Chinese results: aftermath

Great, I should never had been confident in the 1st place. Does it help? Absolutely not!
I fell into that 10% category...where I'm confident yet still don't do well... Of course, B3 was not really that bad, but when you expected something more, it really stung. It was a sharp blow to my tiny piece of confidence...
So what you are positive or optimistic? Blah, blah, blah...
Most people in my class got a B3, but lets not talk about that. I don't even want to let my parents know how my class did. They are not sympathetic at all...Then again, I'd rather them not say anything than to make a fuss of it. I can't stand people pouring oil to the fire...They don't know what I feel, so don't try to make things "better".
My teacher reckon I should try again, go for the retake. I'm going against my beliefs now, I always thought that whatever I score, I will never retake. But since things had taken for the worst, I'll consider doing it. She said I don't have to go for lessons, just go in and take the prelims and O levels when the time comes. I think this is a pretty good idea, afterall, I have nothing to lose. Even if I did badly for the retake, my certificate will show my B3. However, I'm reluctant to do compo and compre again. After weeks of not touching Chinese, I think I'm rusty in my usage...
Anyway, things are not so bad...I'm just a little tad disappointed and sore about my grade. But hey, I had a distinction for my oral and listening compre. That's why my teacher call me to retake, I've a good chance of scoring an A.
~I've faith in you, but you didn't come to my aid when I need you the most~

2 days before O lvls Chinese results

Will be getting O levels Chinese results on Monday. I'm both excited and nervous about it. This is one of the rare chances that I am confident about my exam. I'm always the pessimist. Part of it is to protect myself from failure, when you think negatively, the sense of failure is not that strong.
If you are too confident about something, should you fail, the impact will be too much to handle. This is how I feel. But, when I'm confident in something, 90% of the chances is that I will get it. I'm worried, I have the confidence to get an A for my Chinese, but what if I didn't? I don't know what I will do...
I'm not going to retake regardless of the results, that will be wasting time. Should I get an A for Chinese, that will leave 4 more subjects to get my L1R4. I am aiming for Poly. The range I aim to get is 9 to 14. If I get within the range, I swear I will thank God and reward myself properly.
Prayers every night...
11 weeks till O levels...

Celebrating national day

Today we celebrated national day. It's the eve of Singapore's birthday. Yay!
Though our school did not allow us to wear red and white, which was a downside, I enjoyed the whole event very much. Partly because this was my last year celebrating in Secondary School. I'll miss those happy days...The whole sec 4 cohort was so 'high', haha. Some classes did the wave and there were even some people who brought the Singapore flag! It was so much fun. We stood up and sang the national day songs, which was embarrassing. There were cheers when the principal and disciplinary mistress sang. There were also dance and choir performances.
After that, we watched some games played between teachers and students. There were netball, volleyball and Frisbee. The teachers seemed to be on the winning side. Us, the girls, cheered for our teachers and classmates.
We then went back to class and after taking our gifts, we were dismissed.
I hoped all students out there had a good time celebrating national day.
Happy 42nd Birthday, Singapore!

Updates: 23th-27th july

It's been a long time since I last update the blog. Well, it can't be help, there is extra lessons almost everyday. By the time I reached home, I was so tired... Furthermore, there were tests from Wednesday to Friday.
I got back my A maths test. I failed by 1 mark, but it's alright. So long the concept is there, it is ok. My social studies test was good, 15/18. Haha, 1st time I passed my ss test. However, this is an N level paper which is considered to be much easier.
On Tuesday, my class went to Bishan Home to do CIP. We were going there to do gardening. Wow, it was hard work digging up weeds and planting plants. A refreshing experience for me.
Nothing much is going on in my life, other than O levels is coming...There is still so much to do...
I hate practical tests for the sciences! I'm afraid to start the Bunsen burner...
Well wishes

Tribute to J.K Rowling

I had finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, in less than 24 hours. To be exact, it was about 11 hours. I beat my last record when the half-blood prince came out. Of course, this is only the 1st round.
A job well done by J.K Rowling! It was absolutely fantastic! The loose ends were nicely tied up and each page was filled with surprises. The ending was beautiful.
I started reading Harry Potter when I was 11 years old. From then on, I was a Harry Potter fan. I had to admit, I didn't like the series at 1st, when it was 1st published.
It was a pity that the magic had came to an end, but it will always stay in our hearts. Afterall, a series can't go on forever. Well, we still have the movies to look forward to. I'd really want to see how the directors direct the 6th and 7th movies. There is so much to work on in the Deathly Hallows.
All was well...
Best Wishes

Rantings

It's appalling that someone manages to get Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows one day before its release date, and it is a reporter too.
I thought there is a rule that prevents bookstores from selling the book before its release date? Wasn't someone in US facing jail term because of leaking out spoilers to the public from the book? It's sad to note that newspaper in Singapore is doing the same thing which irks us all.
As soon as I saw the report this morning, I immediately shut the pages up. I can't do this. In a few hours time, I will be getting my own book. I want to be able to read the whole plot by myself. I'm sure every Harry Potter fan wants the same.
Those people who have the misfortune to read that report, I feel sorry for you.
For those who'll be flipping through the newspaper, beware of the report! Don't ever read it!

Anxiety

Ahh...it's driving me crazy...I doubt I would be able to sleep tonight...
How I wish I didn't order Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from Popular bookstore...I made the wrong choice. I should have just wait a little longer. I pre-ordered the book during March, and I got a letter from the post office on April. The offer made by the post office is way better...I still remembered the Half-Blood Prince, I got the book at about 8am.
I 'm worried about my loss of receipt, I'm afraid the staff will give me trouble? I know I am paranoid, but I can't help feeling that way. However, I think everything will be fine, c'mon, I've already paid a deposit. If they are going to create trouble for me, they will get it from me.
One more thing, their service is bad. I e-mailed Popular at Northpoint last week, and guess what, I did not get a reply from them. What kind of service is that? Compare to the National Library Board, they are way below them. I e-mailed to the NLB and got a reply from them the next day. This is what I call good service...
What can I do? I made the wrong decision, so I must make it right...
Countdown to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
less than 24 hours!
Anxiety...

Love Harry Potter, the books

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released tomorrow! I'm so excited! Tomorrow will be a historical day, for me anyway. After 2 years, it is finally out!
I will be going to Popular bookstore to collect my book in the afternoon, I suppose. Need to wait for my father to bring me there. I'm afraid there will be some problems concerning my collecting of the book. My father lost the receipt for it. I think it will be alright, I'll bring my IC just in case. If they are going to prevent me from collecting my book, I'm going to complain... Afterall, I've already paid $10 deposit for it...
Once I collect my book, I will start to read, or should I say scan? In less than 24 hours, I would have finish the book, know all the important facts... First round of scanning is over, I'll start reading for details. This is how I work...haha
This is to prevent me from seeing spoilers online or anywhere else. I can't wait for the release of the book! J.K Rowling is one of the best authors around.
Countdown to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
less than 36 hours!!

Updates: 9th-14th july

I'm so busy everyday. Most of the time, We need to stay back for extra lessons. On Monday, I had my O levels Chinese Oral exam. I think it went fairly well. I misread a few words from the passage and the conversation was bad? It had something to do with environment, just like I guess, but was a different kind. My mind couldn't process anything. I only managed to give 1 example... Anyway, it was over, and I don't think I will fail.
The rest of the days were normal, nothing much happen. There was quite a lot of homework. I had a Social Studies test on Thursday. I must not fail this time! At least give me a pass... I did not pass my ss tests all this while.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is finally here! I haven't watch it yet. It should be a good movie but I'm not as thrill about it as the seventh and last book. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is my precious book, I can't wait to get it!
Next week, it will finally be mine! Yeah

Napfa test 2007

Woohoo! Can't believe I passed my 2.4 km run. My timing was 17.48 minutes, 2 seconds more and I would have failed. Haha. Not bad at all. It's too good to be true! Thanks to my friend who ran with me. She got the same timing as I did.
We had to run 6 rounds around the stadium with the sun beating on us. It was so strong, as we ran in the afternoon. The tracks were so hot, that the heat passed through our shoes. It was like our soles were on fire.
After the run, we were all so sweaty. When we sat down, we could feel the heat rushing up. I was so thirsty... At least I got a E for it. We sat at the bench to cool down and started cheering our classmates.
My 5 stations were alright. I am going to retake standing broad-jump and sit and reach. I will try to get better grades. Anyway, I hope to get a silver for this year NAPFA test. However, if I get a bronze, it's alright too.
Yay!
Countdown to Harry Potter and the deathly hallows:
15 more days!
Monday is my "O" levels chinese oral examination. Wish me luck

Ahh..

I would rather go school than stay at home when my brothers are at home. They are always hogging the computer. Just because I am kind enough to give them the 1st priority doesn't mean they can take advantage.
I know I should fight for my rights but I do not want any conflicts. My mother don't like the computer. She thinks it is the reason for my brothers' tempers and not doing homework and all that. I say that is due to their ill-discipline. Why is it that I don't have such problems? It all goes down to discipline. And they say I was the pampered one...
My father threatened to shut down the computer when I complained too much. You see, I have no one to turn to. If I complained, the three of us will all get the same treatment, an hour of computer a day. If I don't, they are the ones that my father controls, not me. So, I would rather keep my problems to myself and try to get it over and done with. I endured till school starts, at least then, I have a little time for myself.
It is not that I dislike holidays. The June and December holidays are great. I really look forward to them. It is a good thing that my brothers are enrolled in child-care centre. That leaves me, alone at home. I like it. I don't mind staying at home, even without computer access, so long I have a good book, that is all that matters.
What I say is contrary. But sometimes the feelings changed...
Countdown to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
20 more days! Yeah!

Breather

Feels so good that Friday finally came. The first week of term 3 has finally ended. I think it is still all right. We only need to stay for 1 day for Maths extra lessons.
However, next week must be prepared to stay for at least 3 days. There is the Nafa test to look forward to. I'm going to "die" this time. We are going to the stadium to run our 2.4 km run, in the afternoon, when the weather is the hottest. I don't think I can make it... I am worry about my standing-broad jump and shuttle run, ad perhaps my sit-ups. After a few sit-ups, my stomach hurts.
8 more weeks to prelims...
On a good note, the school will be making arrangements for our Prom night in November. The class wanted it to be held on Friday and most of us don't mind paying $55 for it. We can't decide on the hotel though. I want it to be held in a 4-5 star hotel in Orchard Road. This is afterall our first Prom night and this marks the end of our secondary school life.
Best Wishes

Significant Day

7-21-07 is a significant day. The last book, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows will be released at this date. Yay!

I've been waiting for this book since Half-Blood Prince. Now, at last, the book will be mine! Just have to wait for 4 more weeks...

I'm not happy that I bought the book from a bookstore. I should have bought it from the post office, at least they deliver it to my house... There surely will be long queues... I bought the children version but the adult version picture is nice. Anyway, my father said I can buy the adult version after the price have dropped. I can finally complete my collection of Harry Potter books.

Meanwhile, I entertain myself by reading The End of Harry Potter? by David Langford. It is a highly entertaining book. You should read it yourself. There are some parts which is really
hilarious.

Another event coming up is the release of the 5th movie, Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix. I am not really into the movies. I find that they do not capture the scenes properly. My favourite so far are the first two movies. However, I've seen the trailer for The Order of the Phoenix, I think this should be a movie worth watching.

On the downside, school is starting. That is the day I dread. School starts on Monday, 25th of June. "O" levels MT oral exams is coming.

Nevertheless, I've my precious book to keep me company.

4 more weeks...

BBQ

I met up with my friends at Woodlands MRT station before taking a direct bus to Marine Parade. The journey was long, about 1 hour. When we reached there, we couldn't find the NTUC. After asking around, we finally found it. We bought drinks and had to carry 6-8 bottles of 1.5l drinks to our BBQ pit. The way was so long and tiring...
After putting our stuff at the pit, we went to rent bicycles and roller-blades. I haven't really mastered riding a bicycle yet. However, at last I can do it without wobbling too much. But I don't know how to park my bicycle and ended up banging into the wall.
When most people had arrived, the guys started barbecuing. Some of the chicken wings were not cooked properly. The guys really sweat it out. They stood there, cooking food for us.
Our form-teacher came. Other teachers couldn't make it which was disappointing. We took photos and played water bombs. Some of the girls went down to the sea to play. I think it is dangerous to do that as it was dark.
At about 9.30, me and 2 friends went to take a taxi to Cityhall MRT station. We had a hard time waiting for an available cab. We boarded the MRT and returned home. I reached home at 11+.
0verall, the BBQ was fun. Afterall, it was our last year.
